"Ireland and Other Subjects", 50 paintings by California watercolorist Chloe Dee Noble, is being presented May 23 through June 30 at Bon Marche, 141 W. Hancock Street in Milledgeville. A champagne reception for the artist will be held May 23 from 2 - 6 PM at the gallery.

Noble began receiving instruction in oil painting from her aunt when she was eight years old. At age eleven she won first place in the national 4-H competition with a fashion ensemble she had designed and made. She studied art at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the University of Maryland, where she won the Miss Maryland title. Her talent presentation was a vocal rendition from South Pacific. Three days later she forfeited the title after the death of a friend led her to enter a convent outside Philadelphia where she contemplated becoming a nun. During a previous beauty contest she formed a strong bond of friendship with one of the judges and personal chaparone, Mrs. Margaret Kelly, Princess Grace of Monaco's mother. While Dee was at the convent, Mrs. Kelly encouraged her to give up the idea of becoming a nun and to instead become a singer, an artist and a model and to leave the convent for a more conventional lifestyle.

According to Noble, her career has been "a mixture of design, modeling, painting and teaching." In 1981 she received a commission to paint the International Horse Show in Dublin, Ireland, but her work generally centers around paintings of children.

A scholarship fund at Santa Monica College has been established in her name and she was recently named to the University of California at Los Angeles Art Council.

Noble's works have been exhibited at WSB-TV in Atlanta, LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia, the World's Fair in Seattle; The Pentagon in Washington, D.C., Georgia Military Academy; and at various museums, art galleries and shows in California. Personal collection pieces are at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library and the Girls Club of Pasadena, California.

Ten percent of all sales from the show are being donated by the artist to the Atlanta Chapter of the Lupus Erythematosus Foundation.
